the glorious car-free future & rural areas

Most human settlements predate the car.

Village centers were often more dense and walkable before the introduction

of a car, due to inherent convenience, and a lack of parking requirements.

Rural areas benefit from walkability and being connected to public transport.

This includes regional trains and trams, which are used to connect rural

settlements successfully throughout the world. By giving people better

transport links, you prevent isolation and sprawl.

Villages that were built before the development of the car (and

successfully preserved) are enjoyed by humans so much that they often

become attractions. People write stories about them that are enjoyed by

millions. In England, an area called the Cotswolds is one of the

country's biggest tourist attractions.

There is nothing inherent about rural areas that makes a car

necessary.

These ideas don't deserve to be left in the past.
