A couple of folk albums from Santa Cruz — Yesterday I visited Santa Cruz, CA on the last leg of our holiday's vacation. We stopped by a childhood favorite Streetlight Records. New artwork entry in Stafetten 2 — There is now a new visual response in the Stafetten 2 project. I'll link it directly here but also the project page if you want to (re)discover more of it. So Natalia has painted a very detailed picture with lots of symbols in it, which is always fun to interpret. It feels like we are continuing on the more light theme. which is very nice.

Spector's Wall of Sound is Awful, imo — Was reading about the "Wall of Sound" recording technique by Phil Spector, as well as listening to some of the samples. I don't understand why people in the 60s thought this technique sounded good. It's pretty much the one main thing I hate about older music, lol. In fact, I associate a lot of older music with this sound, and that's why I don't listen to a lot of older music. It makes everything sound distant and muffled and unclear.

Anyone into Todd Rundgren? He is often known for his early pop/songwriter albums... but man does he have some out there experimental stuff. Plus he tended to record all the instruments himself on many of his albums (pre-digital recording). Super innovative cool stuff. The album "A Wizard, a True Star" is a good start on the experimental stuff. Though I am also partial to "Hermit of Mink Hollow", which is much more traditional in some ways, but still strange and fun (with a few lower points).

Kovok - pre-production guitar tracking — My band Kovok are recording our first 4-track EP during the following weeks. So this week I have started with guitar tracking, with 2 / 4 songs now recorded. SonicPi compositions over Gemini? — Any SonicPi users on here? Seems to me that Gemini is the perfect place to share text based compositions... I myself am very bad at it, so I won't inflict my noob experiments on you guys, but I'm sure the broader community would love to see some of your compositions... And maybe some Geminauts will be hearing about SonicPi for the first time on here... I think it deserves its own subspace.

any swifties in gemspace? — last week I watched the eras tour movie in the theater. It was great. The theatrics she and her team put into the performance were fantastic. Is there any good music making software that's fully accessible only using a keyboard? (The typing kind, I mean.) I can't use a mouse, and I can emulate one in a pinch, sure, but I'm curious if there's anything like what I'm describing out there. Preferably with Linux support, but I'll take what I can get. I’ve never learned proper music theory, I just want to noodle around and see if I can make cool sounds :)

Midinous — A node-based, non-linear MIDI sequencer. Recently I stumbled across this very interesting piece of software. Was curious if anyone here knows about it and if you don't, I recommend checking it out. I've been having some fun, but didn't really got into the weeds of it yet. The node-based thing can be a bit of a mind-fuck if you're not used to anything like it, but it makes my programmer brain parts tingle.
