Trying to play catch-up on clients, authoring, and hosting.

As the title suggests, I have been kinda out of the loop with the mailing
list. Partially because the technical aspects kinda go over my head, and
partially because I had been somewhat preoccupied with a home move that has
stalled out for reasons out of my control.

Is there a concise write-up for newbies?
