I purchased a new bicycle in July 2020. This is the first bicycle I've owned as an adult and is much nicer than the bicycles I rode back as a child.
In September, I had an accident while riding and knocked the chain off. I was unharmed and got the bicycle home without further incident, but I had no tools at home to perform my own maintenance since I was a relatively new rider.
My local shop performed a free tune-up on the bicycle a few days ago. It's been bitterly cold in my area and I haven't had a chance to ride it since then, but I could feel a significant improvement simply rolling the bicycle around the parking lot.
Unfortunately I do not live in a very bicycle-friendly city, which suffers from severe urban sprawl. I currently work from home due to COVID-19, but even under normal circumstances, my office is too far away to make cycling practical. Thus my primary reason for owning a bicycle is exercise and recreation, not as an actual mode of transportation.
I still know very little about bicycle maintenance. I plan to learn more about it soon. When the weather warms up, I want to be ready.
