An Offline Week

2022-06-03

---

After a busy Friday and Saturday, our house lost electric power for a few hours on Sunday. My wife and I decided to go to a local secondhand bookstore while we waited for power to be restored. I'm not much of a reader these days, but on a whim I decided to pick up a fantasy novel at random. The book I chose is called "The Stone and the Maiden" by Dennis Jones. I'm just past a quarter of the way through the book, and I've been greatly enjoying it so far.

Interestingly, a coworker recently asked me if I would be interested in reading a draft of a novel he is currently writing, even though he knows I don't often read fiction. I didn't want to turn him down, so I accepted a preprint, but I discovered the story was fascinating to read.

At the same time, upon reading a post by Dima about the Jinhao 51A^, I was reminded that I haven't been using my Pilot Vanishing Point very much recently. The pen is very comfortable to write with and was not inexpensive to purchase, so I should use it more than I do. This week I've largely stopped using my micro-journaling file and have been writing in physical notebooks instead.

My weight went up once again last week, which is an annoying trend after having made so much progress. I went on a few bike rides and played Pump It Up for the first time in almost a month this week--which meant more time not looking at my computer or my smartphone.

The result of all this is that I've been largely disconnected from Gemini and the rest of the Internet. I haven't lost interest in posting on my capsule or reading others' posts, but immersing myself in the analog world every now and then is a refreshing exercise.
