In its visual editor Wikipedia helps the editing person to cite sources by establishing title, author, date by retrieving and parsing a given URL:

You can add a citation by selecting from the drop-down "cite" menu

Does anybody know where to start coding support for citing gemini:// resources via this drop-down from within Wikipedia's visual editor?

According to Wikipedia citations for pages typically include:
