You don’t have to be a witch to find moonlight peaceful and soothing. But the moon isn’t always there. What do you do when you need it, but it’s off gracing the other side of the world with its presence?
Fortunately, moonlight is free, and the spiritual energy it carries can easily be absorbed by all sorts of things. In fact, just sitting out in the moonlight for a while can be enough for you to carry that lunar energy with you into the daylight.
For long-term storage, you can use crystals. Or ordinary rocks. Or jewelry you have an attachment to. Anything, really! Simply place the object in direct view of the night sky—anywhere the moon will be traversing during its journey is fine, so as long as it’s not due north or south, and as long as the view isn’t blocked by trees or buildings. Inside or outside, doesn’t matter. Come morning, you’ll have a nice charge built up that should last until the next time the moon is in that same phase.
You can do this with water, too. Any spell that calls for moonlight as an ingredient can use moon water, instead.
The closer you are to the full moon, the more light the object will absorb and the more powerful the enchantment. But a sliver of a crescent still gives off light and energy. Closer to a new moon you may collect less lunar energy, but what you do collect will be excellent for use in rituals for transition or new beginnings.
The new moon itself is only visible during the daytime. If you wish to harness the power of its ashen glow, your object will need to absorb the light during the daytime. Don’t worry about it being "contaminated" by sunlight; sunlight is so ubiquitous, whatever object you’re using probably already carries some latent solar energy in it anyway.
