Black Desert Online: Scalita's Journal: U June 20, 2021

Today was rather eventful!

To begin, I took care of some rather boring chores -- but then things started getting very interesting when I went to Glish.

An otter at local the tavern clued me in about the Bandit Raid Captain. I prefer to not resort to violence, but if there's someone who I'd gladly kill all day, it's whoever in charge of those awful bandits! The otter showed me on my map where I might find them.

I wanted to preserve even the slightest memory of this very helpful otter. I rather like the otter people -- far more than humans, sometimes.

Sure enough, I did find the bandits, but I'll tell you about that later. You see, while at the tavern, I had additionally heard of a rumor of a secret cave -- somewhere in Serendia. There is talk of a map which I guess leads to a great treasure, but the map has been torn to bits. This guy heard tell of an otter fisherman near the extraction mill who claims to have a fragment of the map. To make sure he was legit, I did venture to the extraction mill, and sure enough there was the fisherman. He wouldn't give me the map fragment unless I give him something in return, though -- all he wanted was corn flour. That meant I had to acquire corn, which I had never done before, but more on that later!

By the way, the extraction mill is a rather dreadful place. Everyone hates to be there. Including me. I guess the fishing's good though??

But then a funny thing happened. While on my way to the bandits' camp, I randomly took a detour -- no good reason. But behold, there was indeed a grand cave!

./media/20210620195018_1.jpg

I truly, honestly, profoundly wish that I had not discovered the cave whose map-fragments I'm chasing down. It is indeed a remarkable cave, and it is certainly off the beaten path.

Chanteuse could not follow me into the deepest parts of the cave, because there was a long, sheer drop down at one point. I could handle it fine, and maybe Clover could, too, but certainly not Chanteuse. The first thing of note is a pool of water, a grotto of sorts which bore lush vegetation despite the lack of sunlight.

And when I say lush -- there indeed were lots of flowers which I have never even seen before!

./media/20210620195554_1.jpg

I confirmed that the other entrance to the cave seems to be the entrance of the river which passes through... somewhere. I am inclined to visit this place again, to confirm where exactly I was.

There was not much else in the cave -- certainly no riches, or even very many signs of life. So, I went to that bandit camp about which the otter gave me a tip. AND BOY OH BOY did I go to *town* on them! My new Crescent Pendulum which I had acquired in Glish took care of them with ridiculous ease. I feel ten times more confident with it than I ever have before. I might even venture into the desert area east of Heidel again, that's how confident I feel! I took several of their bandanas (which I sold) and one of their daggers (which I also sold).

As I headed back home, I was still thinking about that map fragment, and the corn flour its owner wanted. I remembered that Zaaira had mentioned corn before -- when I approached her, she essentially gave me permission to go to any of the local farms and pick some corn... honestly, I'm still skeptical, but I did it anyway. Sure enough, I had acquired plenty of corn, and then I could grind it into fine corn flour.

I made more than I needed to, and because I could, I also made some potato flour and potato dough, too. Those extra ingredients, I sold at the central market. Maybe someone will buy it? I guess we just have to wait and see.

At this point, I decided to head home. I passed by the stable boy demibeast in Heidel -- he allowed me to practice taming a wild horse by trying to lasso one of his wooden horses. I was dismayed to learn that... I'm really not good at this. But it is my goal!

./media/20210620212335_1.jpg

One day I am going to find a beautiful wild horse, tame them and treat them with the love and respect they assuredly deserve. Chanteuse is a great partner, and so is Clover, and horses are rather beautiful creatures. I know I have it within me to succeed.
