Bonus Island 2 Revamp: Vote for your favourite levels! [Jun 9, 2023]

We have prepared a survey, where you can vote on which levels you want to see revamped for the new (now forest themed) Bonus Island 2!

The pre-v0.6 Forest World (i.e. v0.3.0 to v0.5.1), which are no longer present in the current Rooted Forest in Story Mode!

SuperTux Christmas 2022 Newsletter [Dec 25, 2022]

Almost every Christmas recently, the SuperTux Team has had an update to release. However, this year there is unfortunately no update. It is not because there was no progress made;

it’s quite the opposite! There are so many improvements that have been added, so many more in progress, and so many more that still have to be worked on for the next update,

that it was decided best to hold off on an update for this year.

So instead of an update, here is a run-down of the progress for the next update:

Improvements made in 2022

Most of the major improvements made to SuperTux in 2022 include:

World select
Local Multiplayer
Complete revamp of tile graphics
Sliding
Crawling
New iceflower behavior
Heavy Crate
Root Crusher
More fish enemies
Revamp of addon menu
Check for updates
New sprites for some enemies

Works in progress

A lot of improvements are still WIP, such as:

Finding a way to not break old levels with new graphics
Improvements to earth flower behavior
New backgrounds
Keys and locked doors
More menu improvements
New sprites for Tux and Penny
More new sprites for more enemies
Updates to every level in the base game

More improvements to be made

And some new improvements have yet to be started, such as:

Improvements to boss behavior
Addition of minibosses
Inclusion of shops
More graphics
Other smaller features

So in short, there is still a lot of progress to be made, alongside the progress that’s already been made. 0.7.0 is going to be a relatively large update for SuperTux, and hopefully you all enjoy it when it is done.

SuperTux 0.6.3

The SuperTux team is excited to announce the release of SuperTux 0.6.3 after approximately 1.5 years of development. This release introduces many new features; perhaps the most new features in a long time!

Some of the most significant changes include:

WASM compilation! SuperTux nightlies can now be played directly in the browser (thanks to Semphris). See below for a link to an online version.
Added swimming (thanks to Daniel and Zwatotem)
Added walljumping (thanks to Daniel)
Autotiles (thanks to Semphris)
Updated animations (thanks to Alzter, Daniel and RustyBox)
Refreshed many contrib worldmaps (thanks to Servalot)
Many updates to paths, with easing, bezier curves, path sharing between objects, and more (thanks to Semphris)
Remade the crystal tileset (thanks to Alzter and RustyBox)
Many new snow tiles (thanks to Daniel)
Many new objects, like the sideways bumper and falling blocks (thanks to Daniel)
Custom particles (thanks to Semphris)
A new rublight object (thanks to HybridDog)
Official binaries for FreeBSD, Linux 32-bit and Ubuntu Touch (thanks to Semphris)
Added in-game progress statistics (thanks to Semphris)
New color picker based on OKLab (thanks to HybridDog)
Add-on creator, to easily create add-on packages with your world (thanks to Semphris)
Rework of the Revenge in Redmond worldmap (thanks to RustyBox)
Added timeshift ambience in the worldmap (thanks to Semphris)
Skippable cutscenes (thanks to Semphris)
Editor auto-saves at regular intervals (thanks to Semphris)
Optional integration with Discord (thanks to Semphris)
Updated translations, of course (thanks to translators)

And these are just the most significant changes; there are plenty of other small features and bugfixes for you all to explore :)

You may be wondering, “If there are so many changes, why not release 0.7.0?” The SuperTux Team would like to make significant progress on the story mode, including things such as finalizing the first two worlds and beginning work on the final two, before 0.7.0 is released.
