as of august 2022 colour negative film might be in short supply, but black and white isnt! last febuary i shot a roll of kentmere 400 in my minolta 7s rangefinder, given to me by my grandfather. shooting this roll i fell in love with this camera, i think its gorgeous and it feels so good to hold and shoot with, but im getting side tracked.
i recently remembered seeing a video of someone online using an ai filter in photoshop to colourize a black and white photo, and i wondered if there were any tools online that could do this to my photos. i was so happy to discover, YES, there was!
i just wanted to share some of my photos i colourized, alongside the originals. while i don't think ai colourization of black and white film is a suitable replacement for colour negative film, its definitly extremly cool! one notable downside is using these free websites, the resolution is quite limited. i shot a lot of these photos in drab gloomy conditions, so i think that made them pretty easy to colourize, as they weren't all that colourful to begin with. however i'd love to try this again with my next roll of black and white (which i am in the process of shooting right now! this time its kentmere 100)
image two (sorry it might be sideways)
hope you found this as interesting as i did, please reach out if you end up doing this yourself with your own photography!
