My Social Media “Stack”

After finally deleting my Instagram account and moving to Pixelfed, I felt it would be a good exercise to lay out what social media platforms I use and how I use them:

Mastodon

I have a single mastodon account that I actively use. I've essentially replaced my Twitter usage with Mastodon and don't plan on turning back.

Mobile: Tusky and Fedilab. I used Fedilab for a while and really like it. It has great customization and user friendly interface. I recently switched to Tusky as a lighter alternative with faster reload.

Desktop: Sengi. I love Sengi. It has a clean UI while providing all the functionality I require.

Pixelfed

I have a single Pixelfed account that I use occasionally. Pixelfed is my alternative to Instagram.

Mobile: PixelDroid. PixeldDoid is still in alpha and it has its hiccups, but it provides me with enough to get by. As an inactive Pixelfed user it does the job and looks promising as development continues.

Desktop: In Browser. Pixelfed is still quite new and as such I believe the best experience with it is through a browser.

I enjoy browsing Reddit, though I may begin dabbling in Lemmy in the near future.

Mobile: Slide. I run CalyxOS (highly recommend) and downloaded Slide from Fdroid. It runs really smoothly and provides me with all the functionality I require.

Desktop: Teddit or Libreddit. Though I still use Reddit, I've almost completely ceased accessing it on my computer. If I do need to access a Reddit thread or subreddit on my computer, I use Teddit or Libreddit. Both programs serve as a private method of accessing Reddit content.

Youtube

I still enjoy watching Youtube videos despite all of Google's horrible management of the platform and treatment of creators. Unfortunately, alternatives like Peertube don't have the specific content I am looking for at the moment.

Mobile: Newpipe. Newpipe is a great way to privately watch Youtube videos on Android. It's very easy to set-up and import subscriptions as well.

Desktop: Freetube. I've been using Freetube for almost a year now and I love it. It is a desktop app that allows me to watch Youtube videos privately through a proxy. It is actively developed and maintained and new features are added all the time.

This is really the extent of my social media “stack”. I'm not a very active user but I try my best to use ethical alternatives where possible and privacy-respecting apps where required.
