Suspended sentence for woman who assaulted ambulance worker

Rory Mooney, 28 Dec

A woman who kicked an ambulance worker in the groin has been given a

suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court today.

Chloe Gordon (25) of no fixed abode admitted a charge of assault on the

ambulance worker, assault on police and criminal damage to a police

vehicle on December 26.

The court heard that police were called to assist ambulance staff at

Queen's Quay in Derry due to a woman 'kicking off' with staff.

They observed Gordon kicking one member of staff in the groin.

Gordon was arrested and then spat in a police vehicle and headbutted an

officer in the chest.

Defence counsel Eoghan Devlin said that his client had been on the

streets for a couple of weeks.

He said she had made full admissions and apologised for her actions.

The barrister said that it was 'a difficult application due to the

seriousness of the offences.'

A police officer told the court that when shown CCTV footage Gordon was

'absolutely disgusted by her own behaviour.'

District Judge Barney McElholm said that it was with 'some trepidation'

he was going to impose a suspended sentence.

He sentenced Gordon to five months in prison suspended for three years

and told her it was her 'final chance.'

He also ordered her to pay £250 in compensation.
