Here's a stick dulcimer that I made for my brother.
It's made from an offcut of laminated bamboo worktop, and a scrap of what I think is iroko from an old school bench - it had some letters scratched into it.
It has brass frets, brass plated guitar machine heads, and the tailstock is just three brass plated pins. The body is a French duck confit tin.
Being a dulcimer, it's fretted with a diatonic scale with a 6+ fret.
It also has a zeroth fret, with the nut just being for string spacing.
Scale length = 635mm
String spacing = 8mm at the nut and the bridge
I've got it tuned to D-A-D, but my brother can tune it however he likes.
We might add the missing frets in later and make it chromatic. Is it still a dulcimer if it's chromatic?
