Worries are plenty justified with respect to a species so thoroughly mentally ill on individuality.
As in an individual life, so also in a society of individual lives: it goes unchecked, festers, explodes and/or otherwise falls apart, self-centric notions survive and infect the next round, which thereby becomes a repeat sans the rinse.
