Hello Midnight people. I'm the kind of guy whose often content just to sit around and listen to other people's stories, but sometimes it's impolite to lurk at the end of the bar. So I thought I'd come over and introduce myself.
I am an amateur programmer and game developer with a few years of experience with IT management. I love technology, I do. However, sometimes I feel the need to step back from the fast lane. I need to take my eyes off the screen and deal with reality.
I live with my father right now. His house is a bit of a mess. We spent a good part of today hauling off trash from the yard. It was hot work, but there is an immediate satisfaction in getting rid of junk that burdens your living space.
Anyway, I'm worn out now and can't think of a better place to kick back.
~bartender, could you do me a kindness and pour me a cold draught beer. Something local.
🍺
Welcome, I just joined and I feel like I'm in a very similar life situation. Teaching myself programming and living with my parents.
Welcome!
Aloha, I’m also your local IT Wizard, I go by Albus.
I often find myself translating what other folks say into plain English or translating what people are trying to communicate into something. It’s immensely mentally tiring and taxing, this last week I’ve just taken off and just sat in bed and around my house and did absolutely nothing.
When the pandemic started in my neck of the woods, I moved home. My parent has struggled with some health stuff and getting them sorted and getting their house in better shape was tiring, but so rewarding. They’ve shown me to focus on the little things and spread love near and far.
However as I’ve slowed down myself I’ve rediscovered how much I love simple things. Like right now I’m sitting in a park typing this on my iPad and it’s so nice. Especially as the sun is setting.
What’s your favorite thing about IT? I truly love what I do so I always this question when I interview folks just to see their interests haha.
Anywho, tootles.
~Albus (port53 because it’s always DNS)
I dare say you sound borderline sane, ~the_bebop_cowboy. :-)

Hi, only just stumbled in this bar myself. Nice to meet you.
What's your most proud bit of software/game you have made?
It's always good to get rid of old rubbish lying about, I'm constantly wanting to bin my wife's stuff she doesn't use 😅
Cheers!
