The Archive provides a library of files that is more permanent than usenet and is easily accessible, and attempts to prevent repetition of work already done by the community. If you can educate others in how to play a song, type up the chords and/or tab and/or playing tip and send it to both the newsgroups *AND* the archive, and contribute to the community. It's very simple: Step 1: Before you submit, make sure of the following: Final That you have included the song name, artist's name Preparations and your own name (and if different, the transciber's name) If you can, include other information such as the name of the album from which the track comes, the name of the author of the words and music, details of the publisher and catalogue number, and notes on what effects are used and on how to play the music. Make sure that the file is 'all your own work'. If you use copyrighted material, it won't (knowingly) be archived. You should also check the archive to ensure that you are not duplicating material already there. If a chord or tab file already exists for the song, take it down and incorporate your material with it. Always credit the original author and mention what each of you has done. If the file is anonymous at the archive, you should nonetheless state that you used material from the archive, and if practicable, disclaim credit for the portions used. Step 2: The simplest method of submitting for all concerned is Submitting simply to email it to guitar@nevada.edu Use a subject line of the same form as you post to news, i.e. TAB: <songname> by <artistname> Alternatively, you can use ftp. If you don't know how, read the FAQ file posted to the guitar.tab newsgroups by Ryan Harding called 'The Ultimate Guide to the Tab Archives'. Use the 'put' command during an ftp session to ftp.nevada.edu/pub/guitar/incoming Please follow the instructions in the file READ_BEFORE_PUTTING N.B.: You can submit by ftp to the *nevada site only*. There are incoming directories at some of the other OLGA sites (for different purposes), but if you upload tab or chords to those sites they won't be archived at *any* site. Step 3: Files are processed and archived manually, so it can take Checking anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 weeks to archive your file. In practice, it never takes more than a week, so you can start checking if your file is at OLGA 4-7 days after submission. Note that the file filters down through the sites, and this may also take some time The best way to check is to read the INFO file posted to the guitar.tab newsgroups every Monday called 'OLGA WEEKLY INDEX'. The indexes are for the second previous week, so if the name of your file does not appear on this list one of the *three* Monday's after you submit it, contact guitar@nevada.edu and inquire politely as to its whereabouts. You can receive the WEEKLY INDEX and other OLGA notices by email. Write to rcwoods@alf2.tcd.ie to have your name added. Your file at OLGA: Any file archived becomes the property of the archive in so far as material extraneous to the musical content (the header and .sig) may be removed or edited. The author's name and e-mail address will always be retained if accompanying the file, along with any other information the archivists deem relevant. The archivists retain the right to modify or remove files as they see fit. In cases of duplication of a song, the archivists may remove a transcription of inferior quality. Copyright of work remains with the author of that work. Posting to usenet or to the archive implicitly gives permission for fair-use distribution. Requests to have files removed or modified should be made to the archivists by e-mail to guitar@nevada.edu. Additions/corrections to this file welcomed.
