Everything meta about the Geminispace, which doesn't fit into s/Gemini, because it's not related to the protocol or Gemtext, and also doesn't fit the more specialized subspaces. E.g. announcements, shutdown notices, random info, even idle chatter.

building the graph of Gemini — Has anyone ever tried to graph the geminispace? I know there are a bunch of crawlers, but I can't find anything related to building a graph to visualize how geminispace is structured, what clusters it has, etc. I think it could be a good tool to explore new communities that you haven't seen yet, by traversing the graph.

My capsule mess I have a two years old capsule, more or less, anything the thing is that I started adding posts "just to try Gemini" so with no concerns for any file structure. Now it seems that I'm settled with chronological folder structure where my gemlog posts are in year/month/ But what do I do with my old posts? My guess is that I should move them to integrate them in the new structure, and add redirections to reflect their new locations... but that's something I've never done "by hand",...

Nice work @Acidus. 👏 Since you are displaying the email contents as preformatted text, it may not (should not, IMHO) be wrapped by clients to fit on the screen, though. Any chance you can wrap the long single-line paragraphs to a shorter max width? Of course, on mobile devices, preformatted text is not great but I can understand why you'd choose to use it here.

Would Gemini survive an attack by the mainstream commercial users out there? I keep wondering...i mean its wonderful that there's this great community of folks and a bunch of pretty useful advice and articles....but what happens when mainstream media and similar folks decide to move in? At the very least i'd imagine that they'd start posting click-baity attention grabbing articles....and overrun places like this - bbs....with their content. Are there any plans in place to prevent stuff like...

Gemini Space Demographics — Is there any data available about the Gemini Space demographics? Does this space appeal to the grey beards? Does it appeal to the youth, as an addition to the unsocial media apps? Who came, and moved on? Who stayed? I add a coarse poll on age, if you would like to take part.

— auragem.letz.dev/devlog/20230911.gmi
AuraGem Relaunch — I have just announced the relaunch of AuraGem! The address has changed to auragem.letz.dev. Most of the capsule should be as it was in 2022, aside from various updates and some things which I have taken down until they can be fixed (the music service and the starwars database). I was planning on waiting until I can pay for the original auragem domain, but I went with FreeDNS instead, which...

How to discuss a lengthy article from http land on gemspace? — I came across a fascinating (to me, anyway) article and wanted to share it here on gemspace for discussion. The only options I could think of were: 1. Just link to http (boo!) 2. Link to Newswaffle, if it works for this article and that’s allowed here. 3. Copy and paste the article The only one that seems right to me (it it works) is Newswaffle but I’m interested in opinions (esp. moderator / admin ones). Thoughts?

Which search service do you recommend in Gemini space? — I’m currently using [gemini link] as my default in Lagrange. At the moment - and this could just be the nature of the contents of Gemini space currently - I get a lot of results for a library flooding my results. The results contain the terms I searched for, but that domain won’t have what I want. What are the alternatives and is there much difference anyway? Please let me know your preference.

I'm Back!! — Hello! I'm back! For those who don't know, I'm Christian. I used to be called "krixano" and I was the one who ran AuraGem (formerly Ponix) before I was unable to continue paying the domain name. That was about 2 years ago. Since then, I have graduated with a B.A. in Theology and a minor in Computer Science I write articles on Theology and other topics on my new capsule now. This bbs capsule is really cool and well done! I'...

Thank you makeworld for your contributions to Geminispace! One benefit of having a protocol whose specification is not intended to change is that the current software can live on in maintenance mode, perhaps indefinitely. With any luck, Amfora today is just as good to browse Gemini with as it will be in the years to come.

— CIA World Factbook in gemtext
CIA World Factbook — I am working on converting the CIA World Factbook to gemtext. It is coming along pretty well, the original web version does not really use much more than three levels of headers anyway.

in web world, when the server software contains a web server, it is usually is designed to listen on some port, and then our main web server (apache/nginx/whatever) can be configured to proxy https to that port. in gemini world, we often have gemini projects that itself listen on 1965, but i guess/hope can be configured to listen on some other port. do we have a gemini server that can serve several capsules, and 'proxypass' requests to different ports? (i have my snobbish reasons to also...

Please excuse me, if this is the wrong subspace to ask for this, but where can I find the source code to the following capsule? [gemini link]

My lizard brain keeps on thinking of ways to add formatting such as emphasis or underlines to gemtext. I have to keep reminding myself that a lot of this formatting is a crutch for good writing, and only really exists in an ad hoc sense due to the digital publishing revolution. Some guy just invented bold italic underline and we've been just putting them everywhere since. Just like all caps is possible but has no taste, so is text formatting.

adult ADHD gemini stuff — Looking for anything in geminispace related to dealing with adult ADHD. From personal logs to resources [THX]

Mirrored Content on Gemini — Is it rude to mirror content on Geminispace? I'm not sure what my own opinion on this is, much less what others think. For example, if I make a post on my personal phlog on SDF, would it be rude to also post it to /u/Ruby_Witch on here? I mean the entire post, not just a link to the post. I feel like people are a lot more likely to actually read something if they don't have to click through. I like having my own private phlog where everything is stored, but it's...

On Geminispace society — People who talk about Gemini being dry or lonely place aren't paying attention to the conversations taking place between people. This is a small community and everyone's generally been nice to each other. This is why it's been a bit hard to see rifts form around real life aspects like supreme court decisions etc. From my read I think people are disagreeing on semantics and not really acknowledging the hurt with empathy. Once you've been hurt it's hard to find a home...

The Nightfall Express (nex://) — New solnet protocol with a very neat and minimal design. I like the approach of just inferring the response type from the filename extension or trailing slash. Keeps it simple. nex uses hard-wrapped lines for directories (like gopher) which gives more opportunity for creative page styling using ascii art and center text alignment and such. The recommended line width is 60-characters, which is too large for...

I've been making a lot of updates to Kennedy, my Gemini search engine recently: Improvements to Image search index Now indexing contents of plain text files Adding a Capsule Health checking tool Indexing the link text of files so you can find MP3s, PDFs, etc. Adding a "filetype:" operator to filter Please give it a try and tell me what you think. Feedback is always welcome!

I'm thinking about some subspaces that would be nice to start. However, I'm not sure how specific to get with them since I don't think there's enough traffic to warrant hyper-specific topics. For example we have /s/GameBoy and I was thinking about starting other similar retro gaming subspaces but I'm not sure. Maybe it would be better to start a more all encompassing subspace like retrogaming rather than a bunch of more specific ones. Thoughts?

Status of pollux.casa The site pollux.casa is down for a while now, does anybody know why? The mastodon of the operator says she may not have time to continue operating the host, but there is no concrete mention of it being down

Q: What is the canonical water cooler place in Geminispace? — I'm wondering if I should start a tinylog and use gtl to stay in touch with people using a decentralized microblog. Or use the fediverse more. Maybe geminispace.org or… Essentially everything, which I want to share, for which a gemlog might not be the right place.
