In Monaco the marshalls are pretty good at getting crashed cars off the track despite the lack of space. Cranes lift wreckage out of the way to be collected later. This year in practice and qualifying we had some clear views of the underneath of a couple of cars, a part that designers would prefer kept secret. Here's a web site with a couple of good photos.
Under a Mercedes (less fast car)
The Mercedes design looks much simpler, lacking all the detail and shaping on the Red Bull. Judging by relative performance, simpler means slower. Mercedes were the ones who were annoyed at having their bottom shown, and maybe it's not because they want to hide things others could copy, but because they know they're lacking there and they didn't want everyone to see.
The race was livened up by the rain part way through, making plenty of people slide off. But they were all careful to come off in the few places where there's an escape road. Bernie Ecclestone (who used to be in charge) always wanted sprinklers fitted to tracks to liven up dull races. In Monaco there was at least one race (1984) where the track section in the tunnel was artificially watered with a fire hose because drivers said it would be too dangerous to have a part-dry track.
Even the rain wasn't enough to help Alonso to the win that everyone wanted to see. There's never been a year where one team won all the races. That might change this year, sadly.
