Recovering from a heck of a day

After so peaceful a beginning, yesterday turned into a couple (American) football games at a remote location (about a two hour drive) with other family, a lunch/dinner with the same between the games (food and service mediocre), a weary drive home in cold rain, delivering a crock pot of sloppy joe fixins to a granddaughter party, then finally home utterly exhausted.

I technically got seven hours of sleep after dragging this aging ass to bed, but the dreams were so vivid that I awoke a bit weary from them. They were mostly centered on a music event my wife and I hosted with about 20 others in a venue reminiscent of a theater in a town about an hour from where we used to live, except in the dream that venue was surrounded by lots of other bars/restaurants connected by varieties of dirty and gravel roads, alleys, etc. (I don't think I could have found my way out of the area had I stayed asleep long enough to seemingly dream reality need to.)

The main character was a fantastic guitar player and vocalist who kept wanting me to join in with him, except he was fixated on the "country music" genre, which does absolutely nothing for me. I was mostly inventing excuses to avoid taking him up on performing with him, all the while hoping to get a chance to perform Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's "From The Beginning" alone.

Eventually, my wife getting up for the bathroom at 6:10am awoke me for good.

The aforementioned restaurant peeved me in a bait-and-switch-y kind of way. Their chalkboard just inside the front door listed an Italian beef sandwich plus a cup of some kind of loaded potato soup as the special, showing a halfway decent price. So I ordered that. But I was immediately told they were out of the soup, but could replace that with a bowl of chili. Fine.

And the chili was quite good.

However, when I received the bill, I noted an up charge for the chili, which I understood to be replacing the loaded potato soup they were out of, which was listed on the aforementioned chalkboard in a way that implied "part and parcel with", not "you can have that too with an up charge". I argued my point with the waitress in vain.

My solution to that what felt like late-breaking, oh-by-the-way deception was to short her that up charge from what would have been her full tip. I didn't feel very good about doing that, yet in the moment I was feeling victimized by typical capitalist info-fuzziness. To put it in terms that align with the Monopoly board game, I get tired of what is more often than not "Bank error in *their* favor!", if ya know what I mean.
