Rory Mooney, 13 Nov
A man has been placed in cells after calling a judge a name at Derry
Magistrate's Court.
The man was sitting in the public gallery while District Judge Barney
McElhom was dealing with a case.
During the case the man got up and went to storm out.
As he was going down the stairs, he was heard to call the Judge a
'scumbag'.
Judge McElhom immediately ordered his arrest and he was brought back in
by security, where he claimed he was only walking downstairs.
When Judge McElhom told him that he'd heard him, the man said he was
only muttering to himself, trying to apologise.
He was brought down to cells by court security.
After a period in the cells he returned to court and apologised to
Judge McElholm and was released.
