Rory Mooney, 13 Nov
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with possession
of a class C drug.
Darren Canning, 41, of Rinmore Drive in Derry, was charged on November
10 with breaching his bail conditions when he was allegedly found to be
in possession of Pregabalin.
Canning, who was released from custody on Thursday last week, was
spotted by police walking on Thursday evening.
The court heard that officers noticed that Canning was holding
something that he threw away after noticing police.
Upon searching the area, police found two strips of Pregabalin, which
Canning denied were his.
Police objected to bail as Canning has 127 previous convictions,
including a number of drug charges.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that Canning has very serious
addiction issues and has been in prison since July this year.
He added that Canning's issues date back to when he was shot in both
legs.
District Judge Barney McElhom granted bail and he will appear again on
November 28.
