I'm Christian. I used to be called "krixano" and I was the one who ran AuraGem (formerly Ponix) before I was unable to continue paying the domain name. I have graduated with a B.A. in Theology and minor in Computer Science now. I write articles on Theology and other topics on my new capsule.

Also, expect AuraGem to be revived in the future... :)

Reading a recent post on Medium from someone who claims to have a psychology degree reminds me just how toxic internet psychology talk is, especially on TikTok.

Server Security and Bubble Spam — Wow, lots of spam on here recently. This is a good time for all server owners to make sure the security of their servers is good. This involves connections having idle timeouts (timeout after not sending something over the connection for a certain amount of time). Also, if you run a streaming service (like my AuraGem Public Radio), you might want to limit the number of connections an IP can make to that stream, since those connections are infinitely connected....

— Ascension day ponderings

Re: Ascension day ponderings — Interesting post by Solderpunk that I just happened to have seen while looking at their gemlog: "All my Finnish friends had 'confirmations', a kind of second baptism which happens at adolescence" Because I have graduated with a Theology major, however, I do feel a duty to add a correction: Confirmation is *not* a second baptism. Second baptisms are...

SIS Update: Proxying Routes Between Servers — Been working on this really cool feature for SIS that I finally got completely working, and I'm very happy with it! It lets you proxy routes from one of the servers to another server at a specific route on the server. This means you can serve a file on the gemini server from the nex server, and vice versa. For example, you could proxy the nex server on the gemini server at "/nex/". The best feature of this, however, is that it will automatically...

SIS Update — Inching closer to being done with most of my SIS (Smallnet Information Services) project. It will allow you to create multiple servers of various different smallnet protocols (Gemini, Gopher, Misfin, and Nex), manage them with a gemini admin interface, and interact between these different servers and various text formats (gemtext, nex directory listing, plain text, gophermap, markdown, etc.). I will talk about the rest of the details when I release it in hopefully a couple days :D

I'm about 15-25% done with my new project. I've decided to call it Smallnet Information Services (SIS), and yes, it's inspired by IIS (Internet Information Services), which should hopefully give hints to what it actually is. I am trying to make this project very easy to setup like I did with my misfinserver project, which also means providing ways to transfer a pre-existing setup from other software to SIS. More details coming soon! :D

I've been working on a fun new project of bringing some smallnet protocols like Misfin, Gemini, nex, and Gopher to Windows XP, and I was able to successfully send a misfin mail to my server on Windows XP (using TLS 1.2)!!!! Unfortunately, I want my server to be TLS 1.3 only becasue misfin pretty much requires the use of client certs., so I will need to get 1.3 supported in the Windows XP client. I am using Golang 1.10 on Windows XP, which doesn't support TLS 1.3, so I might look into either...

Just found this Nushell. This is very close to what I have been wanting modern shells to be! I'm definitely excited to look more into it.

I've written some computer history facts that I've personally found interesting on my nex site here: nex://auragem.letz.dev/ (You should now be able to use Lagrange's latest version to view Nex sites).

Fun fact: .rc files stem from CTSS and Multics' runcom files, and .ec files stem from Multics' exec_com files. These were both files that contained (shell) commands that you can run on demand and give arguments to, and they also featured control flow. The concept of runcoms was designed and implemented by Louis Pouzin on CTSS, and then Pouzin refers to runcom in his design for a "shell" for Multics. Multics' runcom command was basically renamed to exec_com in one of its updates, at least that's...

— Games Are How Big Now?!

Re: Games Are How Big Now?! — Are these games good enough to be worth it? Most of them aren't, but frostpunk is probably the best game I've ever played in my life. I was obsessed with that game for weeks. The storyline and gameplay was so well done, and I love the city-builder-like survival type simulator strategy games. Games like Foundation, Going Medieval, and Frostpunk. I'm very excited for...

Misfin-server Version 0.5.2 and Misfinmail Version 0.4.4 — Big fix: Blank lines in messages are no longer stripped.

💬 3 comments · Oct 05 · 6 weeks ago

🚀 clseibold

Misfinmail Client Version 0.4.3 Update — Misfinmail will now only fetch and save new messages to your local gembox, which means the whole local gembox will not be overwritten with the entire gembox from the gemini fetch address. This allows you to delete mail from your local gembox without them coming back after a fetch. This gives a similar interface to a POP3 server configured to never delete messages from the server. When you delete from your local gembox, the message is not deleted from...

Misfin-Server Documentation — I have updated the documentation for my misfin-server. I intend to update it some more to make things more clear and organized and easy to follow. Once this is done, I intend to start working on a gemini page for the software. Suggestions are welcome.

I am thinking about changing the name of my misfin-server and misfinmail projects to something else, but I haven't come up with something good yet. The reason I'm considering changing the names is because the names need to be something that can be distinguished from the name of the protocol itself as well as from other misfin software.

Re: NC and ND — [gemini link] the N in NC and ND stands for "never use these" From my understanding, Solderpunk made his intentions clear, that he didn't want derivative specs that *look like* the official spec spreading around that made changes and fooled people into believing it's an official spec. The goal of the license is to convey these wishes, not to sue people over anything, as solderpunk already stated. Now, about ND: The point is not about disallowing all summaries of the spec, but...

Misfin Server Current State, and Version 0.4.1 — People using or trying to use my misfin software and server is a great motivator because I constantly feel panicked to hurry up and release my planned features or to make bug fixes, lol. It's pretty exhausting, so I'll probably need a break soon, but I intend to keep going until most of the main features I have planned are done. This is what's left to do: Save TOFU Store to file and load on launch. Currently, the TOFU store clears each time you...

Misfin-Server Version 0.4 — Newsletters - they are mailinglists where only designated writers and admins can write to the mailinglist. This is done using the new send permission option for mailinglists. Send permission option for mailinglists - determines who can send to the mailinglist. Options include: subs, writers, open (anybody) Subs function option - determines whether subs are auto-accepted or not. Options include: accept-all, closed (all are auto-rejected), and prompt (not implemented...

@satch I tried sending a gemmail back to you, but your misfin server appears to be rejecting all connections.

AuraGem Devlog Newsletter — I now have an AuraGem Devlog newsletter on my misfin server! You can subscribe to the newsletter by sending a message with the subject "Subscribe" to devlog@auragem.letz.dev with misfin. If your misfin client doesn't prompt you for message subjects, send your message with "# Subscribe", which is how you specify a message subject in gemmail.

Planned Features for Misfin Newsletters and Mailinglists — I am going to be working on a new feature for my misfin server - Newsletters! Mailinglists and Newsletters are not so different from each other (at least in the way I'm going to be implementing it). Basically, the way I'm implementing it is a newsletter is a mailinglist where only one or some of the subscribers, those that are marked as writers/admins, can write to the mailinglist. Additionally, the original senders probably won't be...

Misfin Mailserver Software: Major Changes! — I've just finished with major changes to my misfin mailserver software! I'm not going to put out an official gemlog about it yet though until I polish it up. I want to add support for 3 different setups: 1. Manual management setup - where the mailserver is mostly managed by one person or an admin. This is good for systems that don't take registrations and only host for a set number of people. 2. Pubnix setup - where the mailserver recognizes the...

Working on some major changes for my misfin server software. Should be much better. It will support multiple mailboxes, and allow for configuration in different ways (via config file or flags) so that it can support different setups, like running it as a service, etc. I'm toying with another idea of it being paired with an internal gemini server on a different port from the standard so that there's a gemini interface to configure the mailserver and access its mailboxes, etc. Those who want to...

I don't understand why GitLab forced me to make a group and project to sign up, especially since the project it forced me to make couldn't be a personal project.
