Kinoshita

A modern continuation of moe centric music in the vocaloid scene

Overview

Kinoshita's music sits firmly within the genre of pop, often featuring

very simple and cute themes. With their music the main goal seems

to be to create a fun more atmosphere, mostly featuring Rin and Una

as voice sets.

A Return to Form

When viewing kinoshitas music I can't help but be reminded of the early

days of vocaloid in which this type of "moe music" was a cornerstone.

It does not ask much from the viewer besides to enjoy, there is no

thought provoking "deep messages", what you see on the tin is what you

get. To some degree I would compare to Kinoshita to a "modern"

lamazeP, but where I think lamazeP relied on more of the moe

nature of the "computerized" aspects of the voice sets themselves,

Kinoshita leverages TalkEx to give just that extra bit of charm.

Perhaps Cute is Best

I sometimes find it hard to take more "deep" songs

seriously mostly because most of the ideas seem very

often half baked. Now this could be the ample supply

of poor translations, or it could be the more

poppy music itself does not strike me as the right medium

for conveying this commentary on society. Perhaps the exception

to this would be Kikuo's work, who often will deviate largely from

the traditional pop sound if it works well with the theme(but even

Kikuos more 'electronic' songs fall a tad flat for me). Its times

like this that I almost enjoy being able to ignore the lryics as

"just another instrument", and being oblivious to otherwise

"edgy" lryics.

This phenominon has become much more of the norm over the last couple

of years, which makes producers like Kinoshita stand out. I feel like at

the core of the their music, is a self awareness of what the genre is.

Which is nothing more then cute 2d personifications of voice banks.
