2022/0813/0630 — lagging badly

The best of intentions fell behind, here I am almost two weeks into August

Out for an early bike ride this morning; up at 6am and down to the end of the Djerring trail, then follow the Dandenong creek trail down to the bay. Its a stinky drain of a creek, especially after the recent rains, festooned with polystyrene foam and plastic bottles, but there are still plenty of waterbirds to be seen on the way down once the sun started to come up.

Mudlarks[1], Noisy miners[2] and Little wattlebirds[3] chased each other around beside the path on the way from Dandenong down into the farmlands, then increasing numbers of White ibis[4] standing around in their rookeries or starting to fly off for the day. A standout oddity was a Yellow-billed spoonbill[5] standing at one end of an ibis island, a much cleaner and brighter white plummage than the ibis on the rest of the island. Further down towards the bay as the creek widened to become the river there were many more ducks of several varieties, as well as numerous pairs of Black swans[6] and dozens of Little pied cormorants[7]
