Warning! This post contains spoilers for the Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyōjin) series, both anime and manga.
So I have recently caught up to the _Attack on Titan[^1]_ (Shingeki no Kyōjin) anime, episode 83 at the time of writing. I haven't kept up very close with the latest season since I have followed the manga all the way to its conclusion last year already. I thought I have made peace with my opinions regarding the ending but as I'm re-experiencing this story, this time as an anime, I've had new thoughts.
I was one of those people who didn't particularly liked the way it concluded for a number of things. Firstly, I felt like there was very little consequence to the characters aside from Eren. Pretty much all of the remaining main-/main/ cast got a happy ending. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, it just felt like they went for a /safe/ ending to keep people happy that their favorite character(s) survived.
Now that I've had more time to process it and revisiting the story from the anime's perspective, I could reason that this happy ending is what Eren would have intended in the first place. Since he wanted his friends to be saved.
I also had an issue with the thing about trying to spin Ymir's feelings as love for Karl Fritz. In retrospect, I can see what Isayama (the author) was going for but at the time, the suspense of waiting monthly for updates on the story must have left me disappointed with this conclusion.
Another issue I had was that Mikasa insinuated that Eren wiped her memory too so that she forgot about his encounter with her the same as Armin, something that could not be done to the Ackerman bloodline, part of the reason why they were persecuted within the walls prior.
The last one is biased since I have been a fan of Historia but I disliked how the seeming plot regarding her pregnancy turned out to be nothing in the end. After her role in the uprising against the government, she has just been forgotten plot-wise. Her pregnancy was made out to be some sort of mystery, at least to me, only for it to not go anywhere. Over time however, I have learned to accept it and watching the anime now knowing the end, it does not disappoint me as much.
I probably missed a few more plot points or direction that I wasn't a fan of but these were the ones that come to mind right now. It's not anything remotely important but I felt the need to share for anyone who cares to read it.
I may not agree with everything that happened but it doesn't change my opinion that this series is one of the best stories ever written when taken as a whole. It stays as one of my favorites despite some of its shortcomings.
