BIND's Attack Style: Aftermath

The previous post went over changing BIND's Combat system significantly, but I've not been able to resolve the problems. Every change I make demands other fixes. Everything I fix breaks something else.

previous post

Once combat's simplified, the shield's don't work. Or they work with swords, but don't provide any use when holding a spear, meaning anyone using a classic fighting style, used by the Azande and Romans since before the written word, won't receive any benefits.

So I go to fix the problem with a new tacked-on rule, saying 'and another thing to take into account...', then immediately delete it in disgust.

This seems like the worst possible time to rework the system, but the prize is glorious - one less roll to resolve a combat round. If I can get it working, combat starts, players roll to hit the TN, and either deal Damage or (if they fail) receive Damage.

At least the git's working well. If I made major changes to a standard RPG, I'd end up having to rewrite all the NPC stats for the dozen adventures I've written. Instead, I've just changed what LaTeX does with those characters, so the new stats show fine.

In other news, the project got its first contributor - someone jumped up out-of-the-blue, managed to compile the pdf on Windows (a feat I've failed at since adding the svg package), and will hopefully add instructions to the wiki for any future Windows users.
