there was a question about posting same content on different places in geminispace, let's say on personal gemlog or phlog and bubble bbs: gemini://bbs.geminispace.org/s/Geminispace/3131
i answer here because i cannot leave such a long comment there, but i'll leave a link to this text.
and the op (original poster) was concerned if duplicate texts would be considered spam.
though i wanted to answer that i personally have no problem with that, and if the op was concerned about my feelings, i am ok with that, but i think there is still a problem with posting to several sources and it is not it being spam or not. one of the commenters mentioned history of using different services. and in a world with not interconnected centers, it makes sense to post everywhere. this is what businness does, they say follow us on facebook and follow us on twitter, etc, and they post everywhere.
i am not sure that activity pub is that well designed. but it is certainly the step to the right direction.
i believe the question may not rise if bubble was also a kind of rss reader in geminispace. i wou!d be able to follow your phlog and repost from it to my feed or any subspace? rss/atom are also about decentralization, not developed further as activity pub, but still, decentralization.
my personal experience is that since i learnt about decentralized tech on the internet, i was hooked to it. i used jabber/xmpp and i use it today, and i try to make more people to use it, i believe it is sort of modernized email, and it is very important to me that the protocol is community governed.
then there was diaspora. i run my pod (nodes are called pods in diaspora slang and instances in activity pub slang) since september 28, 2012.
then i installed mastodon instance in early 2018 and i didn't know what to share where.
shell i leave a link to diaspora post on mastodon?
newcomers were also confused that they cannot follow from mastodon to diaspora, but those are decentralized efforts.
(i tend to blame diaspora devs more, though i understand their motives. i think some kind of compatibility layer with activity pub networks would not harm).
so i started to search for projects that fediverse projects that support both diaspora and activity pub, and found hubzilla and socialhome. hubzilka is written in php, and i don't want to host php, so it was a dealbreaker. i guess narrowminded one, because i know many amzing things about hubzilla today: for example it is possible to reshare diaspora post for activity pub contacts, or vice versa. in my case, with socialhome whatever i reshare from activity pub goes only to activity pub contacts, and what i reshare from diaspora, goes to diaspora contqcts, my ap contacts don't know what i reshare from diaspora and for diaspora.
so i chose socialhome in order to be able to only write once, and distribute whatever i posted to both worlds: diaspora and activity pub.
and i believe in write once. i believe it should not even matter if hou wrote on web or gopher or gemini, others from web or gopher pr gemini should be able to read that.
so as i more and more enjoy gemini(but mt concern is that it is not community governed), i more and more think that projects like tootik are very cool. tootik brings whatever is published on activity pub nodes to your tootik node, and you can consume that by using a gemini browser. and whatever you write by using a gemini browser would be delivered to activity pub nodes in webspace and available for web people to read. #decentralization #federation #fediverse #the_net #internet #freedom

Please note you can use the draft composer for comments, too, to make long comments.
โ The Help page says about "Special Commands":
In the "New post" and "Comment" prompts, there are special commands available:
* Entering a period (.) will create an empty draft.
* Entering a colon (:) switches to Titan to submit a longer text.
* Ending the message in a single backslash (\) will create a draft out of the entered text.
Also, you can freely include links in your posts and comments, just use the normal gemtext `=> URL label` syntax.
