[FEATURE REQUEST] Search function directly into the URL bar

Hi @skyjake can you implement that when you type anything without a known web suffix e.g.:. .com, .net, etc. and basically anything without a dot, Langrange searches on the default search engine you select instead of looking for an inexistent gemini page?

I personally believe this will make the gemini experience more interactive, thanks! ๐Ÿ™

I believe this already exists, you just need to setup the default search engine in the preferences. Unless I'm misunderstanding your suggestion.

@clseibold perhaps I've never setup this feature properly and it has never worked out... ๐Ÿค”

@freezr By your suggestion, do you mean that lagrange doesn't recognize queries like "blah.test" as search queries, but instead addresses? I think the problem is lagrange will have to keep track of a long list of top-level domains, and also is this list of TLDs fixed? Can't people create new TLDs, or is this a fixed list managed by some organization/consortium/whatever?

You could always put quotes around queries that look like URLs...

I believe that today has been a crazy day for me and I haven't realized this future have been always there...

@freezr Searches via the URL field have indeed been there for a very long time. ๐Ÿ™‚

In v1.17, you'll also get additional search shortcuts so you don't have to rely on a single search engine.

Also, for feature requests I recommend visiting
