Another pleasant gemlog almost Sunday β Somewhat of an unusual weekend on tap. My wife will be having a "girls' weekend" with high school friends in roughly the locale in which we lived until January of this year. As for me, a high school friend will be visiting with the primary goal of our performing in a bar tonight, which should be a blast. Tomorrow, I'll meander to roughly where the wife will be, where we'll eventually wind up together for a gathering or two with friends still living in...
π s/Lagrange (+1 other post)
It seems that when I attempt to add/create a bookmark, if a folder is selected in the bookmarks sidebar, the pulldown in the add/create bookmark dialog lets me select from a list of folders, but reverts back to the bookmark selected in the bookmarks sidebar regardless what I attempt to select in said pulldown. The only time that pulldown seems to accomplish what I want is if no bookmark folders are selected in the bookmarks sidebar. I mean, I can preselect the target bookmarks folder in the...

My original Raspberry Pi 400 developed a problem with its USB ports. The computer would lock up if one nudged the attached cables even a little bit. Itβs been sitting on the table unused for months, yet still I felt compelled to buy a new one. And the new one works great! But itβs still sitting unused because Iβm too busy with other stuff.

"All Posts" now groups posts by subspace β I'm experimenting with something new: to keep All Posts more balanced, I am now grouping posts from each subspace and only one of the grouped posts is visible per each day of posting. Every 15 minutes, the visible post rotates in each grouping. As an example, if someone makes 10 posts on one day in their userspace, only one of them will be shown at a time in All Posts. Throughout the day, which one of the 10 is shown keeps changing. This new rotation...

hello there! β I'm glad to join all of you in geminispace! I have my capsule with agate server, but it doesn't support CGI afaik. Does somebody know how to add them to it? Maybe it's possible to host another server that supports them and make them work on the same domain but different pages? I'm a bit lost

I'm here and little lost. β I've always wanted to participate in this site, but I could never figure out how to do it. I was using amfora, and setting up client certificates (and everything associated with it) seemed, and still does seem, like quantum physics to me. It's only when I started using Lagrange, was I able to "set up an identity" on bbs. It allowed me to create a name and an account on here. I stumbled in, not exactly knowing how I got in, but I'm happy I'm here.

Thursday afternoon β So it's Thursday? Got it. Had to blow a bunch of today going through old receipts and other evidences of purchases of materials and labor to demonstrate why a property should be appraised higher than "market value" relative to neighboring properties. Then we received a disappointing inspection report of a property we were interested in. BZZZT! Discussed the kind of dwelling we really want next time around, hit a grocery store, interacted with a daughter and granddaughter...

Kovok - pre-production guitar tracking β My band Kovok are recording our first 4-track EP during the following weeks. So this week I have started with guitar tracking, with 2 / 4 songs now recorded. I have used free software for the whole process: JACK, Ardour, Guitarix and GNU/Linux. You can watch this video of one of our songs (guitar only), showing the process:

Airport, a free/libre homebrew PS1 video game β This is an older video game of mine I wrote back in 2016-17 for the original PlayStation, with a few minor improvements and bugfixes during 2020. It can run under a PS1 emulator, such as PCSX-r, or a modchipped console (although some software exploits were found just a few years ago). While the source code quality is way below my current standards, I enjoy playing it from time to time. I hope you also like it. The software is licensed under the...

Maybe some synth pop will get things flowing. Here's one from one of my favorite current bands - Ultraflex.

Did the mechanism behind this link: New post in u/<username> change? I ask, because this morning I exercised that, pasting text into the buffer presented by the ":" special command, and then noted a typo... so I went down the "Edit post" and then "Edit body" path as usual, re-pasted the fixed post, saved... ... and suddenly noticed my post had *two* '#' level headers. It appears as though Bubble is now separating the '#' level header from said upload buffer into a post "title", keeping the...

Found this neat bash script to generate a static photo album site in about 273 lines. haven't tried it but looks cool.

Deleted my website, keeping my gopher and gemini. It's fascinating to find out the ammount of work a tiny website requires compared to a much larger gemini capsule. And to little gain.

I have so much to say about the situation in Israel, but I feel suffocated from having argued about everything with everyone off and online since October the 7th. No one wants to listen to me and the few that do can not digest what I"m saying. I have a meltdown every day and I am barely functioning. Everyone else are in insecure atavistic or similar mode. I am so angry and I haven't felt so alone in my life. complex thoughts or feelings are definitely NOT WELCOME HERE right now

phone-hosted gemini/gopher server? I found this interesting software for android and saw that the ports that could be used aren't in the gopher range. Has anyone tried to set up a server on their phone for gopher or gemini?

There are a lot of permacomputing adjacent subs but no actual permacomputing sub? I guess it makes sense because centralisation of terminology is a bad thing in a bottom up diverse ideology, but complexity also abounds from the Tower of Babel that bottom up systems create. I'm still trying to understand what I'm looking at and how. But jealous of, say, u/stack just straight up messing with Forth. I don't know how a permacomputing world can hang together.

Finally have automated deployments set up for Rosy Crow. It's such a pain in the ass having to wait for a new GitHub Action to chug along just to test a simple change. Woe betide any problem to which the solution is to use the "sed" command

π s/Lagrange (+1 other post)
Lagrange wraps hard broken plaintext lines when it shouldn't. For example: [gopher link] To get this page to render properly (i.e., to render as-is), it is not sufficient to press ctrl-Y and switch to "raw text" mode. Raw text mode does not present raw text, but features line wrapping. In both modes, I must zoom out until all the lines stop wrapping. But this makes the font size smaller than I would like it to be. A better option is for raw text mode not to wrap at all. If someone needs a...
