Anybody here have any experience with NixOS? Heard about it for the first time today and think I might give it a try whenever my Framework laptop arrives.

I've tried in vain over the last few days to install NixOs on my Raspberry Pi 4b. Each image boots, but after the install, the Pi acts like there is no SD and/or bootloader. Frustrating! · 2 years ago

Guess I'll give it a go then—it's not a work machine or anything so a long learning curve is a ok with me, especially given the payoff it seems! NixOS sounds like the future in a way I haven't seen in a distro for a long time, thanks everybody! · 2 years ago

Found myself saying, "I know exactly what file I need to edit and how, but I don't know how to translate that to Nix Script" too often. I like the concept, though. · 2 years ago

I'm a contributer and run it on multiple servers and laptops, definitely a learning curve but the payoff is enormous. · 2 years ago

The best part is when you have build a fully portable configuration that automatically gives you your preferred applications and settings. If you use many different machines it is a godsend. · 2 years ago

Yes, it takes some getting used to but once you have a configuration that works it's fantastic. Works better alongside tools like nix-shell for temporarily "installing" packages without messing with your main config. · 2 years ago
