OK, I think I am a mech-kbd-nerd. But my partner calls me 'a violent coder' - bottoming out a brown Das keyboard (I prefer blue, of course). So I put my keyboard-nerdiness on hold for now, and whisper-type when she is around.

I have two Das boards - a brown and a blue.

after discovering mechanical keyboards here on Gemini I bought one less than a year ago. I think I just went to mechanicalkeyboards.com or something like that. I definitely like them and wonder if I can swap out my work one.

@gritty: you can most likely bring your own keyboard! I used to bring my own chair to contract gigs, and on one occasion had it chained and padlocked to the desk (after someone stole the first one)

I'm a blues-user myself (although they're actually Razer purples, I like the laser actuation for longevity), and I'm 100% certain that it gets on my partner's nerves. I have to make sure that I close the door to the bedroom if they're still sleeping in there if I'm about to do a lot of heavy typing...

Also @gritty I've always taken my own keyboard to work, if you're going to spend so much of your life sitting there typing it may as well be as good of an experience as you can make it!

@gritty you definitely should! You might want to consider some less clicky switches if you're in an open landscape though :)

you know I just might do that, thanks all. any suggestions for a regular sized layout?or a particular website? I'd like to avoid RSI and loud clacking at work.

Another mech keyboard lover here. I've not built any (yet) but have several laying around. It all started with a Cherry MX black, huge and clunky, and now with 60% blue switches, both for personal computer and for the work laptop. Working from home has its perks, like a real sounding keyboard ;-) (My partner also enjoys a blue switches keyboard and never has complained!)
