Baby joy for Limerick joint senior football captain ahead of club final

Nick Rabbitts, 3 Nov

LIMERICK joint senior football captain Iain Corbett is celebrating

after he became a father for the first time.

The defender, a garda based in Tipperary, welcomed little Dylan into

the world with partner Laura Greaney this week.

"So special they set off fireworks all night for your arrival," Iain

joked on Instagram, in reference to the fact his son was born on

Halloween night, Tuesday, October 31.

He described the baby's mother as "amazing", adding: "We're blessed to

have you."

Iain, 31, will be hoping to be celebrating on the double, as he leads

his Newcastle West team into battle against Adare this Sunday.

He is hoping his side can secure three County Senior Football

Championship titles on the spin. Throw-in for the game is 2pm at the

TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Four Limerick football finals down for decision this weekend

Alongside joint captain, goalkeeper Donal O'Sullivan, Iain has

skippered the Limerick footballers to two league promotions, a Munster

final, a McGrath Cup title in 2020, as well as a first appearance at

Croke Park in more than a decade last year.

It came after he missed the 2018 campaign as he took part in a tour of

duty of the Lebanon, as he was then a private in the Irish Army.

Many of his county teammates took time out to congratulate him on his

new arrival.

In this number were Colm McSweeney, Josh Ryan, plus former panellists

Danny Neville and Robbie Childs.

Elsewhere, another Limerick footballer has reason to celebrate this

week.

Wedding bells are set to chime for Dromcollogher-Broadford man Cillian

Fahy.

The 27-year-old midfielder, a teacher at Broadford National School,

popped the question to his long-term girlfriend Caoimhe O'Neill.

She said yes in the beautiful, but bracing surrounds of Brandon Point

in Co Kerry!
