THE GREEN Party has picked its candidate to contest Limerick City West
at next summer’s local election.
Peter Spencer, part of the Covid-19 HSE vaccination team at
Patrickswell and Scoil Carmel in the city, will represent the Greens in
the election set for next June.
A keen cyclist, sportsman and Munster fan, he is a physiotherapist with
more than 15 years experience.
Married to Hospital woman Sinead, he spends his spare time in the
People’s Park and Mungret playgrounds with daughters Saoirse and
Aisling.
He was previously a senior orthopaedic physiotherapist in the Mater
Hospital’s orthopaedic/spinal injuries unit and has led a number of
healthcare improvement initiatives, winning a national healthcare award
in 2019.

As a father to a daughter with additional needs, Mr Spencer says he has
an “acute awareness of the pressures placed on parents, due to the
shortage of therapies and childcare services”.
He adds he is “passionate about advocating for improved access to
quality public healthcare for the most vulnerable in society and for
greater resources in autism and children’s disability services”
“Housing, transport and health” are his priorities for City West if
elected.
Mr Spencer is aiming to become the first Green Party councillor elected
to the City West constituency, which stretches from O’Connell Street
out to Patrickswell and Ballybrown.
The local election is due to take place on June 7, 2024.
