whale fall 13

2023-10-08

being very smart this week and actually working a few days ahead so i don't forget and get lazy on sunday. i know i should have done this earlier โ€” it's what i do for my monthly artlogs โ€” but ehhhhhh. now however i have mirrored my entire capsule locally and will be uploading stuff through rsync. baby steps towards using git over at neocities, which i've been putting off because i'm lazyy.

synthetic, with bing's generator i believe. the whole thread is quite good. i wasn't familiar with stephen biesty's work (i probably saw some of it as a kid but i can't count that), and i haven't really been able to find anything of his in a large enough resolution to satisfy me. i think it'd be interesting to compare his deliberate detail to the synthetic nonsense, but digital artifacts rather complicate matters.

i really like all the text in these diagrams. i really like scientific illustrations of fantasy / scifi / whatever stuff, and really really like asemic text and the voynich manuscript and the codex seraphinianus and stuff like that. i like fake things!! no wonder why the uncertain sloppy "low quality" synth imagery fascinates me so

ode to dithering, by stephyesterday

i love dithering. the colors are so vibrant here, and the transitions are stunning. ode to dithering indeed, this beautifully showcases the effect, and the straightforward subject matter makes the medium itself the focus. really cool.

you know me and frames. love the dense layering as well, this piece has so much depth while also having that sort of flattened perspective where the intention is not to depict a realistic scene, but build symbolism and context โ€” like in medieval art. i love this kind of work and really strive to have the patience to make it myself (in particular for my knight yuri)
