Title: Gemini as a community, today, by Yretek

Gemini as a community

gemini://text.eapl.mx/more-thoughts-about-communities

This thing on the crossroads between Gemini and Community have sparked some interest. The reason might lay in that we're searching some form of community, since we realized the «big bad Web» will not deliver their promises. I've written, and I'll write it again that I don't think a protocol cannot be a community. However, it can be the infraestructure for some form of communities, if only we build them.

There's no all-Gemini community, not even something of that sort for the small number of those of us using the Spanish language. Yet, there are small rootstocks expaning under the earth, linking our persons and capsules. Say meeting places like Midnight Pub or Station, aggregators and the unique space that it's Cosmos.

And while it might not look like much, it's something that we didn't have before, and that, rhizome by rhizome, so to speak, allows us to listen and learn from each other. Yay, it grows like a cold forest, but growing slowly isn't necesarily a bag thing if it means growing intentionally. It's absurd to compare us with the corporative web that, parafrasing a German proverb, “they go fast in the wrong way". We don't want to go there.

So let's be humble and work communities up by building relationships among people. Some good will sprout from that, even if not always what we expect. Infrasctructure will follow, we're no short of talent here.
