Thinwire EFHW Antenna - 2023-02-06

For the past month or so I have used a very thin (28 gauge) wire that is almost invisible, with a 9:1 transformer (LDG). Mainly on 40, 30, 20, 17, 12 and 10 meter bands. I tried to tune it on 6 meters and it seems to work but have not had the luck of finding anyone on CW there.

The wire is about 20 meters long and is strung between two trees at about 10 meters above ground. It is in an "L" shape as the 9:1 is set at about 1.5 meters off the ground tied to a wooden fence post.

The antenna is oriented in a east-west direction. No problem working north and south America. I have also worked Europe with it.

I have another 9:1 transformer with a N-S orientation and have worked the Pacific with it. I have to tweak that one more because possibly there is a problem with the transformer (not from LDG) and so SWR is high but my transmatch lets me work it. I recently made a contact on 10M with ZL with a bearly copyable signal. All my contacts are with maximum of 5W.

I had some concerns about how much power I could run so I did some tests and even up to 50W seemed to cause no problem with the wire.

I really like the EFHWs and will continue to use them.
