Learner podcasts

I spent about four weeks or so listening to learner podcasts. The main purpose they served was to make me realise i actually can listen to podcasts.

The problem with them is the people talk slowly or enunciate clearly. I don't want that! I'm going to get used to the wrong form of the language. Furthermore, i find podcasts harder to study with because of their visual free nature. I get too distracted to listen intensely.

So i've stopped listening to learner podcasts, but now have a stream of native podcast going. That way i can dip in and out, get used to the sound as background noise, and pick up bits as i hear it. I don't believe much in passive immersion in this way, but i want to ensure that i'm comfortable hearing the tune of the language. Also, this is a new step where even after a few hours i realise i can still pick up a lot.

That said, i don't think that learner podcasts are useless. The best thing about them is that many of them come with free transcripts, which are essentially free interesting graded readers. I've been making a folder of transcripts that i can dip into when i want to read something interesting.
