He lives in a nice house, in a nice neighbourhood. He has lots of great gadgets in his house, he's good at his job, his salary comes easily, he gets on well with his household. Life's good.
Yet, something's missing. Jim's getting a feeling of de-ja-vu, a lot. He's already on his second career, he's lived with a number of people. He's tried all the gadgets, and he's bored.
Jim started noticing patterns, like no matter how hard he tried to determine his existence, things played out independently of his efforts. People seemed to go about their lives in such a predictable sort of way. Is that how he looked to everyone else?
Jim started questioning his sense of self, of self-determination, of his very existence. He was starting the think there really was a higher power, but he was also thinking this was not a higher power in the traditional sense.
