Tonight my mom said she was going to cut into one of the peaches we got from wal-mart. "If it's bad I'm going to throw it out," she said, because we cut into a few earlier this week, and they were pretty mediocre. Dark and tough and bitter.
We've noticed recently a groundhog living next door in our neighbor's house. He occasionally pops into our yard and was on our front porch once. It's weird to have groundhogs here, and it's kind of neat to watch him.
In the way I do, I suggested to my mother that if the peach was nasty, she chuck it in the yard so the groundhog may eat it, and do that she responded with the funniest thing I've heard her say in recent years.
My mother looked upon me with confusion and revulsion, chuckled, and said, "I'm not going to give food to a giant rodent!"
