Iâm so glad I learned (a few years back) that git commits are versions* of files, not diffs or changesets. The first version control system I used** was darcs, but I never ever wanna go back to a âtheory of patchesââstyle system like that or pijul. Iâm much happier with the way git works. YMMV of course and I donât wanna rain on anyone elseâs parade. Itâs just such a headache-reducer, working the git way.
Yes, I know the best way for contributors to work on my stuff is to send me patchesâ but thatâs still awesome because I have an email plugin that turns those patches into git branches so I can work on âem with magit.
â : pull requests are also OK! Not on GH obviously but to plain accessible repos.
Just the increase alone in the amount alloted to Swedish military is much higher than the total for climate.
The military spending increased by 27 billion* SEK (an increase of 28%) while the environmental spending (including non-climate stuff, like clean water) was cut to under 20 billion SEK (planned to be cut to 16 billion in 2025).
Also, those 16 billions are pretty undercut by all the billions spent on subsidizing the fossil industry, for example 6œ billions spent to subsidize gasolene prices.
I guess they wanna have the most guns and cars on the cinder.
What was that sound? Oh, only Dag Hammarskjöld (who helped stop the 1956 war) facepalming in the grave at Swedenâs UN delegates dropping the ball on this one:

In many ethical positions in life, Iâve taken the easy & lazy route such that what I believe is right is what I also instinctually feel is right.
One of a handful of exceptions to that is âguilt by associationâ; my every instinct screams to condemn someone for the company they keep, but the system of ethics Iâve cooked up wonât allow that. Itâs difficult enough that we carry the burden of our own faults, we donât have to be saddled with the errors of our friends.
Lately Iâve been thinking that this goes even more, not less, the closer a friendship is. Itâs perhaps possible to distance oneself from an acquaintance over a political disagreement, but itâs a much bigger ask to split up a close friendship.
âFor decades, those of us who have developed Windows screen readers have been so determined to work around this IPC bottleneck that weâve relied, to varying degrees, on the ability to inject some of our code into application processes, so we can more efficiently fetch the information we need and do our own IPC.â

Yes
How do you cope with other people having destructive values?
For example, if you were on a boat and someone had the personal choice and values to drill holes in the boat? You wanna respect their freedom but also, you know, not drown.
Keep the fossil fuels in the ground.
I wish that Star Wars, instead of this whole âdigitally recreating appearances of actorsâ would just straight-forwardly recast the roles with other actors. Itâs not like Hamlet is portrayed by a recreated Olivier.

Book reco for a super autumnal vibe? Iâve already got Jansson, Jackson, Bradbury, and Hickman&Weiss. Looking for something else thatâs also super seasonal. Can be uplifting or sad, either way (and donât let me know which of it it is before I read the book obvs), Iâm just looking for something that breathes autumn through and through. And then I donât wanna know anything else about the book đđ»ââïž
Sometimes when history is presented, the rare few who had the courage and integrity to go against an oppressive hegemony come across as if they were the norm. The values of the present have caught up with them and weâre too ashamed to examine how messed up our own values are, so we fill our history book with stories of the heroes and exceptions. While most people continue to live our day-to-day lives complicit in a planet-wrecking, corrupt set of values and norms.
Not only big things like the fossil economy and never-ending wars, or wedge-driving polarized politicization of medicine, identities, or relationships, but even just small things like the relentless appification of society where itâs assumed that every last liâl wayward straggler on the planet is finally wholly down with the sickness of Google Play or App Store and has a planned-obsolete liâl heap of e-waste loaded up with Facebook, Venmo, LinkedIn, Line, Signal, WhatsApp in order to participate in society at a basic level. Weâre entrusting our lives to a set of corporations with no real sense of oversight, democracy, participation, sustainability, or conscience. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Convenience, and the Mental Ice Age followed with him. And Darkness and Decay and the App Store held illimitable dominion over all.
Alarmists have, unfortunately, been more correct on climate prediction than the academic consensus. I thought the âalarmistâ reasoning made a lot of sense given the mechanisms and forces in play. Obviously since our emissions have grown and PPM has grown, temperature change has accelerated. IPCC mightâve underestimated the problem.

I was trying to find out whether emails from sbc.se would be TLS (like almost all mail servers send) so I did:
dig +short sbc.se mx
echo ehlo idiomdrottning.org|nc sbc-se.mail.protection.outlook.com 25|grep TLS
Thatâs usually a match but not this time. I wonder why? Is there a problem on my end?

This, on the other hand, claiming that Proton wasnât vulnerable in the efail era, is misleading because an encrypted message sent from Proton to a vulnerable client like Thunderbird couldâve been cracked; Proton can only protect in the other direction. It takes two to tango.
(Of course, thatâs in the Magical Christmasland scenario that the mail got intercepted through TLS and DKIM [but thatâs what an email provider can do, and protecting from malicious providers is the one remaining use case for PGP], then craft a faux email with HTML and glitter, then trick the reader to open that email on a vulnerable client. So the only people who couldâve exploited efail woulda been your own email provider.)
Again, itâs so odd that as many as 10 out of 28 muas were concatenating parts this way (or rather, that they were doing decrypt-region before parsing the MIME). To me that tells me something mightâve been a liâl messed up in the GPG API, affordance-wise.

I hate this speech/reach model. Nostr has a similar model. Not happy about that.
On email, âreachâ is defined by spam milters and blocklists, but even then if some MTA would start sending out sick stuff it might get shut down totally. For example spam (UCE) mail servers have been held legally culpable.
Overall the BSky idea is to try and make one big super scaled audience of billions on the same feed. (If they manage to make that federated I guess thatâs better than it not being federated but still existing.)
Not into it; on Fedi Iâve been retreating into groups and thread servers and smaller cozier spaces. Bringing the smolnet feel back to Fedi. Not looking forward to having to live in fear of a tweet.

Iâve never had a song be âruinedâ by listening to it after a breakup. No matter how many times âI will always love youâ have spun, itâs an unbreakable diamond of a song.
No.
The songs thatâll kick my ass are the songs from when times were good. The songs that played when things were at their best and beautifullest.

This article is misleading since a lot of email does use TLS. I get my electricity bills over TLS email and Iâm happy with that. Iâd never ever consent to getting them over plaintext email.
