So, I finally played through the Steins;Gate visual novel. Since this zombie forum is where I first heard about it, it seems the appropriate place to record my impressions. I definitely enjoyed it, but given the time it took, I was surprised by how little it added to what I'd already got from the anime.
It was nice to have access to Okabe's interior monologue, interesting in particular to see that he maintained the chuunibyou even there, and there were a few little points in the story which hadn't been clear to me in the anime (why they were talking to Alpacaman, exactly what was going on with Faris's ransom), and some things left out in the anime like Krisu's lecture and the Suzuha ending were nice to see, but I was struck by how well the anime condensed the story to the essentials.
It was interesting to see how the VN genre conventions played out, particularly the "dating sim" requirement that each ending correspond to a girl... that hint of objectification made me slightly queasy, and it tied into some of the parts of the anime I found weakest (the chapters associated with the Lukako and Faris endings in particular).
But most striking was just how slow the exposition was. I suppose that's largely a part of the commercial need for long play-time in a game. The anime did a pretty good job in cutting it down, but I think the second quarter drags nearly as much in the anime as in the VN.
Meanwhile, the anime added a number of key things which I missed in the VN. The more detailed physical characterisation allowed by animation was obviously one. But also Mayuri's watch stopping was a nice memorable touch which they added from almost nothing, similarly the "shinkansen wa shiroi" line, and they really tightened and improved a lot of the dialogue to make it more powerful... I was somehow particularly disappointed by how weak Mayuri's lines in the climactic scene on the RadiKan roof came out in the VN.
This was only the second VN I've played, and I was struck by how resolutely non-interactive it was, with only a few inconsequential email choices (inconsequential apart from the rather arbitrary sequence required to unlock the true ending, for which a walkthrough is definitely required) and 3 branches off to non-winning endings, and yet how engrossing it managed to be despite that. Somehow the format really does work.
It was a shame that there was no option (in the Steam english version I played) to have japanese subtitles, which meant it didn't work so well in reburnishing my japanese.
Hmm, anyway. I seem to have criticised the VN a lot here, but really it should rather be interpreted as praise for the anime. But on the off-chance that any reader is considering playing the VN, I'm afraid my advice has to be that they just (re)watch the anime instead -- it will save them a lot of time, and they won't really be missing out on anything important.

freeBASIC?I have been using freeBASIC for years. It is a little rough in some places, but all in all I have few complaints.

TLS (the encryption layer used by gemini and by HTTPS) supports both server certificates (the server identifies itself, always used in HTTPS) and client certificates (the client identifies itself).
Gemini 60 status provides ability for the server to request a client certificate.
If a visitor wants maintain the same username across different posts (without the risk of other client impersonating the same user) client certificates are an easy way to achieve it.
On the other hand, a client does not need to always send the certificate (thus making tracking impossible).
Certificates might also be deleted.
The use of transient certificates (limited duration) is strongly encouraged.
