Cutting Edge Development

2022-02-18

Using the most expensive laptop you can find as a thin client to a rented cluster of virtualized machines which themselves are virtualizing still smaller machines which run software intended to virtualize still smaller machines.

The workload? Probably capable of running on a raspberry pi.

As an aside: Lately I have become annoyed with both analogy and hyperbole. In an effort to wage my own private war on language I pulled out a raspberry pi and checked. The work _can_ be done on a raspberry pi (model 3b).

Congratulations to me, I guess. Short of starting a forest fire while I wait for containers to build I'm not sure how I could have made this a more expensive process intended to accomplish so little.

Good lord, I don't think anyone actually knows how to write software any more. Advocating for using things like Kubernetes, to me, surpasses incompetence and has reached a level I would describe as negligent. Truly, this is the power of cloud computing.
