Re: "I live and work at the Benson Place, a blueberry farm in..."

Comment in: s/farming

Hello fellow New Englander! I am taking a break from gardening this season; time constraints as well as a groundhog that has taken up residence next to the plot. My parsley has volunteered again this year along with some other herbs, currently in mint season. I may plant some cannabis if I can find some clones; that is fun to grow and hopefully Mr. Groundhog won't chomp it on me.

@murdock hi! oh yes, we love the groundhogs. Nice to get some volunteers even when you don't have time to garden 😊 we have gotten some wacky volunteer squash over the years.

This year i've started planting different species of millet. Actually 2023 is the year of millet apparently. This stuff is great, doesn't need much water and it's quite tasty.

Last year we finally got some chickens and are currently getting about 3-4 eggs daily! Love not having to buy eggs now, plus the chickens are actually pretty great for eating grubs in the garden as well!

@gemalaya i love millet! It’s so tasty too - great with maple syrup and butter for breakfast or with salt and olive oil for lunch. I’ve been making really tasty millet muffins lately too!

@ahappydeath i bet they are so happy! And it’s awesome to have really great eggs right outside your door

I live and work at the Benson Place, a blueberry farm in western Massachusetts. My family has goats, chickens, rabbits, and we grow just about every vegetable which can survive on our windy mountaintop. We produce over 50% of our own food by value. I know many geminauts are interested in these things, and I'd be interested to hear what kind of food-growing endeavors you are up to!
