=== on political correctness
this gemlog is hosted on gemlog.blue, because it is the most easy-to-use way for people new to gemini to create a blog.
i really dont like the web as much as gemini. still, i tried signing up on wordpress and its still broken. so i tried weebly and that didnt work either. and jimdo got close, then screwed up.
you dont have to believe that im a tech savvy person who set up her web browser to avoid a bunch of crap-- who knows how to turn things off too. but the modern web sucks.
i have yet to find a gemini host that has anything but content that is polite and friendly. id love to express a complete range of emotions, but i dont want to have the very first pissed-off gemlog. not even per-platform.
fortunately, this is a topic where im comfortable being cute and friendly. this is the real me, not an imitation. though like every real person, ive got layers, you know.
i may say something that offends you, though the purpose of this gemlog is to be genuine with you. thats a priority for me.
i know, a lot of people use "im just being honest" as an excuse to step on as many toes as they can, not because theyre actually being honest but because theyre jerks. thats a shame.
on the other hand, some people are just more likely to offend because they havent spent their lives walking on eggshells-- or, they used to, and now theyre done with that. or theyre just hopelessly honest. about everything. in my opinion there are worse traits than that.
i dont believe in political correctness for its own sake. i think its a slippery slope, but people who dont agree with that, ive watched how that turns out. it isnt pretty.
then again, sometimes there are good reasons to choose your words with care. sometimes catering to someones sensitivities isnt all bad. online this is impossible; its like pascals wager because even if you decide to "please god" as it were, which god do you decide to placate?
there are too many people in the world to try to make them all happy. and your own happiness is too important to throw away just to try to please everyone.
heck, i even think theres a time and a place for being (very) impolite.
on this platform at least, i will endeavour to be reasonable and friendly. i mean, its even in the name of the gemlog. but i cannot promise you will appreciate everything i have to say.
if you are upset because you feel something i wrote doesnt take you into account, or misunderstands you, or doesnt speak for you, i write best from my own perspective about my own experiences. your experiences are going to be different. your perspective is going to be different.
however, if you are reading this because youre lgbt, or even curious about whether youre lgbt, i want you to know that everyone is different-- sometimes we have something in common-- and i do not think it makes you or your own experience any less legitimate.
it doesnt matter what kind of lgbt you are in my opinion. except terfs of course, because honestly, thats one exception i simply cant sympathise with. terfs should feel absolutely welcome in the 20th century; thats where they belong, sorry. (not really sorry though.)
then again, if youre a trans woman (not naming names here) or any other transgender person who is being called a terf because of some guilt by association or guilt by abstraction or guilt by post structuralism, you have my sympathy. you do. <3
