Days 10 and 11 Natsu 2021 So life got in the way yesterday. I ended up in a meeting which ran until I had to run off for Scouts and then I was knackered. So you have 2 days in one instead. Who you happen to be, who knows. Anyhow, there be gossip! Scandelos! Asanoyama appears to have been a naughty rikishi who has violated the Covid protocols by visiting a bar 2 days before the basho. He will be kyujo tomorrow and we shall see what happens. Based on current punishments, he will either end up like Abi with a 3 tournament ban or asked to retire due to being Ozeki. Silly sod who has wasted all he struggled for really. There are rumours of the tabloid sort that Ryuden's breaking of the Covid protocol was due to having a mistress who is pregnant and an altercation occuring between them. Not good for anyone really unless you want to say 'Scandelos!' a lot. Anyhow time to see some sumo! Hakkeyoi! Day 10 Terutsuyoshi faced Chiyomaru. A belt grab which looked like Terutsuyoshi was grabbing Chiyomaru's belly followed by a spin was all it took Terutuyoshi to win. Chiyotairyu looked a bit like a dog humping the air in this match against Tsurugisho. A quick toss and the humping dog was out. Chiyoshoma and Ichinojo had a Mongolian stare off. After a matta, they were quicker to touch clay and hit the tachiai. Ichinojo found himself the wrong side of Chiyoshoma looking very confused. Chiyoshoma just had to walk Ichinojo out to win. Myogiryu sent Tobizaru flying a respectable distance. Thankfully it was down the corridor between stands so he went far. Up to the steps it seemed. Asanoyama prevented Mitakeumi from getting his kachi-koshi today. Lots of attempted offences successfully blocked with a bit of a walk to the edge and shove to win. Another Mongolian stand off with Terunofuji defeating Kiribayama. No stare down required. Terunofuji just obliterated as he has most days this basho. Some solid belt work from Takayasu against Shodai. Controlled and relatively simple. Takakeisho faced Onosho. Tsuppsari lead to a kachi-koshi for Takakeisho. Terunofuji still leads. The 2 followers are Takakeisho and Endo who have their kachi-koshi. 8 have make-koshi. Day 11 Enho returns again. His arm seems more taped up than before. Chiyomaru rushed past Enho and then was struggling to stay in. Some swift shoving and a dramatic leap to get enough momentum lead to Chiyomaru leaving the dohyo. Okinoumi didn't want to start the match against Tamawashi. When the tachiai eventually happens, Okinoumi ended up at the straw but quickly shifted so Tamawashi fell face first. A nice use of an over committed opponent. Chiyotairyu was on the edge of a kachi-koshi. He has to wait a bit longer. Endo held the centre ground but Chiyotairyu walked too far backwards out of the dohyo while trying to pull Endo forward. Tsurugisho took out one of the mono-ii judges with a cray launch forwards off the dohyo with Akua. He tumbled forward and the judge's life flashed before his eyes with that pair coming at him! Ichinojo has surprised me. He was one off kachi-koshi. He got it in a lightning bout against Kotoeko. It appears Kotoeko was trying to leap around too much and lost where the straw bales sat. The replay still confuses me. Terutsuyoshi had a fine win against Hidenoumi. At one point Hidenoumi looked as if he was going to squeeze Terutsuyoshi's head off. However, somehow, in a rather unlikely manner, Terutsuyoshi managed to swing Hidenoumi out of the dohyo from the headlock. No flying monkey today. Aoiyama was tricked by Tobizaru and fell over. Takayasu face Takakeisho. There was a nice revenge bit with Takayasu deciding to give the wave of slaps to Takakeisho. That seemed to make Takakeisho mad and he prevented Takayasu from reaching kachi-koshi today with a shove. Lots of clapping happened when the slap fest started. Asanoyama took a hell of an onslaught from Takanosho. All of Takanosho's power and Asanoyama didnt budge. Myogiryu faced Terunofuji. They entered a belt contest and a swift pivot lead to Myogiryu hitting the clay. However, a mono-ii followed due to possible hair pulling. Hansoku was declared and so Terunofuji got his first loss of the basho! It seems controversial really as the top knot moved but the hand seems to be pushing down on the head rather than pulling. Excitementing times for the yusho race. At the end, Terunofuji is still in the lead with a single loss. Takakeisho and Endo still follow on with 2 losses. Ichinojo and Okinoumi follow after with 3 losses. Incidentally they are all kachi-koshi. There are 9 make-koshi with 6 at risk if they lose tomorrow. 5 are 1 win away from kachi-koshi.An awful lot of rikishi seem to be 6-5 or 5-6. 4 more days left for this basho!
