I'm a postdoctoral researcher at Berkeley Lab (California, USA), working on computational environmental fluid mechanics and hydrology. Before that, in 2018, I worked on computational disaster management at the RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science in Kobe, Japan. From 2012 to 2018, I worked on multiscale modelling techniques for hydrodynamics at my alma mater, the Technische Universitat Berlin in Germany.
At Berkeley Lab, I develop workflows to glue scientific software from the IDEAS ecosystem together. This currently comprises the mesh generator LaGriT and the integrated hydrology simulator Amanzi/ATS. As part of the Watershed Function - Scientific Focus Area, I'm applying these workflows to run integrated hydrology simulations at the catchment scale to better understand the interplay between controls on rainfall-runoff partitioning.
I was born in Berlin, Germany, but grew up in an Aegean fishing village: Urla, Izmir. As a young person, I would always want to become a fisherman myself, or work on a boat. Perhaps that's why I like to study water and wind. I currently live with the love of my life, Anna, in Los Angeles, California. We are happily married since 2017.
