Seems like the public groups bot is not doing well, I probably shouldn't have suggested using it since apparently they haven't fixed all the problems with it, or there's new problems we didn't have before!
Easiest way is once you're inside Delta Chat start a chat with benulo at systemli.org (my e-mail) and after I receive your message I'll add you to the group. Quite a few have joined already!
