ATTN: Strategic Marketing 623-889-7456...stop calling me! You wankers.

2008-02-26

A few months back I started getting calls from the above number. I didn't answer the first few times, because I generally don't answer unknown numbers on my cell phone. I didn't know who would be calling me from a 623 area code, so I googled them.

Apparently, <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=623-889-7456">I'm not the only one they call.</a>

Various web sites mention contacting the FCC and filing complaints about Do-Not-Call list violations. I don't think that will work, though. If you look at the law carefully, they're not really in violation, because they don't actually try to sell you something. (Well, they might be in violation if they use autodialers, but there's no way to prove that from just my phone ringing).

There is a law that they are clearly in violation of, and that's <a href="http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/search/display.html?terms=telephone%20harassment&url=/uscode/html/uscode15/usc_sec_15_00001692---d000-.html">Title 15 Chapter 41 Subchapter V 1692d Paragraph 5</a> and I quote: <blockquote>"(5) Causing a telephone to ring or engaging any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass any person at the called number."</blockquote>

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. They're causing my phone to ring repeatedly and annoying the crap out of me. Now to figure out who I contact about that and make those jerks stop calling me.
