Second project: slightly larger hand towel
Side by side comparison between project 1 and 2

nice work! that looks like some bulky yarn... in my experience as a knitter, i had an easier time learning on fingering to DK weight yarn. (aka, around 3-5mm needles. i cant tell well from your picture but it looks thicker than that)
i dunno if that carries over to crochet- but if you've been struggling to get your yarn to cooperate, that could be a factor. just wanted to mention it just in case :)

@mouseless thank you! I started first project with 6.0mm hook but realized going smaller helps a bunch so I worked my way down to 4.5mm any smaller and the hook has a really hard time catching the full thread. The yarn is indeed bulky and difficult to work with due to hemp strands being stronger than steel in tensile strength and having almost no give. If one of the individual strands catches while forming the slipnot its an almost certain reset. After awhile my hands started to hurt so lately I have been focusing on improving tensioning/techinque without forcing the thread to reduce hand strain as much as possible.
