here's my last fm 3x3 for the past month (roughly, i didn't want to wait until the 31st but maybe i will update in a couple days with a more "accurate" chart haha)
lots of awesome albums this month! despite being a huge modest mouse fan i never really gave sad sappy sucker a fair shake until recently, some awesome songs on there! I love birds vs worms and point a to point b a lot! listening to this record i can see where a lot of artists i really like are coming from : )
rules was another first listen for me this month, and i really liked it! i've been familiar with sandy and the title track rules for a while, and love them, but im glad i gave the rest of the record a couple spins! it definitly fills in the gaps in his discography in my mind (makes each album jump feel more logical), especially considering im a big fan of race. standout songs on this album for me, besides the previous two, were wicked boy and mis!
lots of horse jumper of love this month as well! they're coming to toronto (where i live) in a couple weeks and im getting ready and excited for the concert! i wasn't huge on their new record (a natural part) at first but after a couple listens its grown on me. its definitly a little cleaner than their last two records, which im not huge on, but the songwriting is still really good and ive been singing a bunch of their songs to myself over the past week.
sunforger is a sick slowcore band from montreal on cooked raw records, a friend of a friend of mines' record label! i really like their song atlas and run! if you're into slowcore you definitly need to give them a listen! they were actually supposed to play with hjol in mtl before their show got cancelled
a country western is another amazing band on cooked raw, the labels flagship accoording to their bandcamp (which will be linked below). i love their dissonant and distant take on slowcore. i first heard their stuff from the charity compilation from last year, through the soil, which was also my AOTY. its really long but every song on tts is incredible and special, and a country western's 'going home' is no exception! definitly check this band out as well if you're a fan of the slowcore revival that's been happening
while they're not quite slowcore in their current incarnation, they are gutting a body of water is an incredible shoegaze band thats making waves in small circles. i believe the band is the recording project of Douglas Dulgarian, and they play with a full band live. while he may only use two pedals live, his tone is incredible. the way the band layers sound, and cryptid lyrics, and insanly catchy melodys is something you need to hear, over and over and over again
